Northwest Airlines is an airline headquartered in Eagan , Minnesota in the United States of America . It is the fifth-largest U.S. airline. Northwest has three major hubs in the United States : Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport , Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport , and Memphis International Airport . Northwest also operates flights from a hub in Asia at Narita International Airport near Tokyo and transatlantic and Asian flights in cooperation with partner KLM from Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam . Northwest is the world's fifth largest airline in terms of RPK (revenue-passenger-kilometers). In addition to operating one of the largest domestic route networks in the U.S. , Northwest carries more passengers across the Pacific (5.1 million in 2004) than any other U.S. carrier, and carries more air cargo than any other passenger airline.
Check-in times: To ensure an on-time departure, reservations and advance seat assignments may be cancelled if the passenger has not checked in and received a boarding pass at least 30 minutes prior to departure and/or is not onboard the aircraft at least 15 minutes prior to departure. If you are checking luggage , you must do so no later than 30 minutes prior to departure for flights between the 50 United States (45 minutes if departing from Atlanta , Denver , Los Angeles , Newark , Tampa or Washington , D.C. -Dulles, and 60 minutes for Las Vegas ). For all flights with an international destination or origin(including Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia.), you are required to check luggage at least 60 minutes prior to departure. Recommended arrival time for international flights is at least 2 hours prior to departure (3 hours if departing from London-Gatwick or Frankfurt airports). All reservations and advance seat assignments may be cancelled if the passenger has not checked in and received a boarding pass at least 60 minutes prior to departure and may not be eligible for denied boarding compensation if they are not onboard the aircraft at least 30 minutes prior to departure.
Change to passenger name or flight: changes can be made either online for some extra cost per person plus any difference in price for the new flight, or at the call center for extra cost per person plus any difference in price. For travel to the same destination, the reservation can be changed to standby travel for any flight to the destination leaving on that day for no extra cost. If the original flight was the last out of the airport, standby travel for the first of the next day's flights is allowed and if there is only one flight per day, standby on a flight on the preceding or following day is not allowed.

Baggage allowance: one piece of carry-on luggage plus a purse or briefcase or laptop computer or small backpack is allowed on board the aircraft. Dimensions of the additional item must not exceed 15"x11"x6".The carry-on luggage must be of a size and shape to allow for storage in overhead compartments or underneath the seat in front of you. It cannot exceed 45 linear inches (9 inches by 14 inches by 22 inches) and 40 pounds. A maximum of 50 pounds (23 kg) of checked luggage with total linear dimension of 62 inches (158 cm) per piece is permitted at no charge. Additional charges may apply for luggage weighing more than 50 pounds (23 kg) or with a total linear dimension of more than 62 inches (158 cm) per piece. Northwest does not accept luggage over 100 pounds or larger than 160 linear inches per piece.

Pet travel: Carry-on pets are limited to small dogs, cats, and household birds ( birds are allowed only within the 48 contiguous U.S. and Alaska ). All other pets, including ferrets and reptiles, must travel as cargo. Northwest limits each flight to six carry-on kennels; two (2) in First or WorldBusiness Class and four (4) in Economy. Due to local government or handling restrictions, Northwest does not permit carry-on pets to several destinations, including Hawaii, Hong Kong, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Oman, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom (U.K.) regulations do not permit carry-on pets or accompanied pets traveling with passenger luggage. All animals, including service animals, must be transported using the cargo service. Two small pets of the same species may share a kennel if they are between 3 months and 6 months, are comparable size not weighing over 15 lbs total including kennel, or if they are adult mother and offspring under 4 months. The maximum kennel size permitted is 17Lx12Wx8H inches (43Lx32Wx20H cm). The combined weight of your pet(s) and kennel must not exceed 15 pounds (6.8 kg). A one-way, per-airline fee of $80.00 USD ($123.00 CAD) will apply to each kennel transported in the passenger cabin if traveling within the U.S., and between the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean . For International travel carry-on pet fees will vary depending upon the origin and final destination. Northwest also accepts small pets as carry-on luggage for a nominal fee.
