LTU was founded in Frankfurt on the 20th of October 1955 , bearing the name "Lufttransport-Union". The first flight was on March 2nd, 1956. Today, LTU is one of germany's renowned airlines. Every year, LTU carries more than 5.6 million passengers on its 26 red and white colored jet aircraft. More than 70 airports worldwide are served by LTU aircraft, ranging from the Airbus A320-200 with 168 seats to the Airbus A330-300 with a seating capacity of 361. LTU operates with one of the youngest and most technically advanced fleet worldwide. LTU's aircraft are highly economical and extremely comfortable. Although LTU operates on behalf of many large tour operators, more than 98 percent of all flights are operated as scheduled services.
Check-in times: US: Check-In begins four (4) hours prior to departure. Check-In desk is subject to close one (1) hour prior to departure. Canada : Check-In begins three (3) hours prior to departure. Check-In desk is subject to close one (1) hour prior to departure.
Change to passenger name or flight: changes can be made either online for some extra cost per person plus any difference in price for the new flight, or at the call center for extra cost per person plus any difference in price. For travel to the same destination, the reservation can be changed to standby travel for any flight to the destination leaving on that day for no extra cost. If the original flight was the last out of the airport, standby travel for the first of the next day's flights is allowed and if there is only one flight per day, standby on a flight on the preceding or following day is not allowed.
Baggage allowance: Every passenger has a baggage allowance of 20 kg (or even 30 kg for journeys exceeding 29 days) together with one piece of hand luggage (max. 55x40x20 cm) weighing up to 8 kg which is not included in the baggage allowance, as well as small items needed during the flight (photo bags, something to read, etc.). All other baggage is subject to the excess baggage rates. On flights to the USA, Canada and Cuba (until Oct.06) you are entitled to take with you two items of luggage weighing 23 kg (height, length and width not exceeding 158 cm). In addition one piece of hand luggage not exceeding 8 kg in weight (max. 55x40x20 cm in size). If only one piece of luggage is taken that exceeds the permissible weight of 23 kg up to a maximum limit of 32 kg, a flat fee of 25 Euro ex Germany will be charged (25 USD ex target area). As from 1st Nov'06: Business Class passengers have a baggage allowance for two pieces of baggage each 32 kg (height, length and width not exceeding 158 cm) together with one piece of hand luggage not exceeding 8 kg in weight (max. 55x40x20 cm in size).

Pre-assigned seating: can be reserved in advance for a fee of 10 ,- EUR per person/leg. A seat can be reserved free of charge if you have an LTU CARD.

In-flight service: LTU offers a range of non-alcoholic beverages, coffee, tea, fruit juice and a wide range of spirits and alcoholic drinks on all flights. Depending on the departure time and the length of the flight cold and/or warm meals appropriate to the meal time are served. On all long-haul flights, you have a choice of two meals in the Economy Class. In addition special children's meals for children from the age of 2 years are served On all international flights special meals are available at a charge of 10,- EUR per person/flight (as from 1st Nov'06): vegetarian, kosher, gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan meals, meals for diabetics. You can choose from a wide range of current magazines free of charge. 14 channels, a great variety of audio and video programs are available during the flight.
Air miles: frequent flyer scheme, is available for online enrollment. It gives a chance to earn free travel and access to special features , like managing credits from canceled flights, etc
