Spirit Airlines is a United States low-cost airline operating nationwide scheduled and charter flights. The airline is headquartered in Mirama , Florida . Spirit Airlines is the leading low cost carrier with service to the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Latin America with 24% of scheduled service flying beyond the contiguous 48 states by winter 2005/2006.
Check-in times: Check-in begins 3 hours prior to departure at the Spirit Airlines ticket counter. Spirit Airlines reserves the right to cancel the reservation or seat assignment of any passenger who does not have a boarding pass at least 30 minutes prior to scheduled or posted departure (60 minutes for international flights and 45 minutes for Atlanta, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco). Customers presenting themselves at the boarding gate less than 15 minutes before the departure (30 minutes for international flights) may lose their reservation and become ineligible for denied boarding compensation.
Change to passenger name or flight: : changes can be made either online for some extra cost per person plus any difference in price for a new flight, or at the call center for extra cost per person plus any difference in price. For travel to the same destination, the reservation can be changed to standby travel for any flight to the destination leaving on that day for no extra cost. If the original flight was the last out of the airport, standby travel for the first of the next day's flights is allowed and if there is only one flight per day, standby on a flight on the preceding or following day is not allowed.
Boxes and Plastic Containers
Boxes and plastic containers (such as Rubbermaid) are accepted on both domestic and international flights with the following conditions:
•A Limited Liability Release tag must be completed, and waiver signed by the customer.
•Boxes must meet the same size and weight restrictions as checked baggage; excess, oversize, and overweight charges may apply.
•Spirit personnel are not responsible for packaging or re-packaging any boxes.
•Boxes must be strong enough to hold the contents.
•Boxes containing or having contained hazardous material are not accepted.
A flat fee of $75.00 each leg will apply for all sporting equipment (surfboards, scuba tanks, bicycles etc.) with the exception of golf clubs.
Golf clubs can be transported as a normal checked item if within the weight limit (size limits are waived for golf clubs). Overweight charges apply. See “Checked Baggage Fees" for charges for overweight items.
Bassinets, infant/child seats, and strollers are accepted as checked baggage at no charge, and are NOT considered part of the customer’s baggage allowance.
Wheelchairs and other mobility devices are accepted as checked baggage at no extra charge, and are NOT considered part of the customer’s normal baggage allowance.
Pet travel: dogs, cats and domestic birds are allowed as carry-on or checked baggage for a fee of $50. A maximum of 4 pet containers is permitted in the cabin on all domestic flights including San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dimensions of container must not exceed 18" length + 14" width + 9" height and must fit beneath the seat.
Spirit Airlines does not accept pets for travel in the cabin or in cargo on international flights. Legroom: seat pitch is about 32-34 inches depending on the aircraft's type
In-flight service: : Meals, snacks and drinks are served. Alcohol is available for sale. Different entertainments , such as in-seat movies, radio, TV, etc are offered during the flight.
Air miles: frequent flyer program, Free Spirit, is available for online enrollment. It gives a chance to earn free travel and access to special features , like managing credits from canceled flights,etc
