Mediterranean summers are hot , winters are mild. The climate is mild with humid summers and cold, damp winters in central and northern Italy and France. As for Spain and Portugal there can be very hot and dry in summers, and cold and wet in winters. Winter in Madrid and Spain's high central region can be rather cold.
Central Europe has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. It's usually hot or warm in summer and cold with temperatures below freezing in winter. The peak season for ski resorts is from November to April.
The Gulf Stream (North Atlantic Drift) affects the climate in Scandinavia, the UK, Ireland, and Iceland, which is fairly mild. In the UK there are cool and wet winters and comparatively warm rainy summers.
